Thanks to some great support we have reached around $9,500 of donations but we are now making the final push to reach our target of $15,000 – please consider helping us here!

Also, lots has been happening at the site… we have a mailbox and out first raised bed kitchen garden! The cacti are in bloom and things are moving steadily onward!

Thanks to all your support we have made it half way through our Kickstarter Campaign – but we need more help and to anyone who has already donated: please tell your friends about the project!

Anyone in Texas? We are having a fundraiser on Earth Day – April 22 – to support the campaign. Come enjoy delicious cocktails at Dive Bar in Austin with Greenbar Organic Liquor. For every cocktail sold, Dive bar will donate $6 to our kitchen kickstarter fund!

We have had some amazing volunteers so far who have helped us get Habitable Spaces established in Kingsbury Texas. We’ve cleared dead trees, brambles and cactus from the land, built a fence and a gate into the space, and have made a workshop, a rustic kitchen space, and a beautiful firepit which is the Hearth of the project. Special thanks to Chess Venis, Paul Rossman, Kevin Kneofer, Martina Mrongovius, Ben De Voe, David Perez, and Alex Ward who have generously volunteered their time and effort to getting this project started. Now you have the chance to help us too!

We have just launched a kickstarter campaign to fund the construction of a kitchen pavilion. We will use as many reclaimed materials as possible, alongside the land’s own resources. The entire structure will also be a rainwater collection system, with a greywater waste system that we will use to water our gardens. This building will be the heart of Habitable Spaces, and to build it we need your help. So spread the word and donate!

Halloween – Thanks for Coming!

Thank you to everyone that braved the sudden blizzard and ice cold rain to make their way to Flux Factory on the 29th. In spite of the weather, a good time was had by all and you’ve helped us on our way to Texas! Stand by for news on one final farewell NYC party!

HALLOWEEN PARTY at FLUX FACTORY!

The whole Habitable Spaces team has been busy preparing for our Halloween Fundraiser party at Flux Factory this Saturday.

We have had an excellent response from the press and our various sponsors as well as authors Michael Novacek and Mary McKenna Siddals who have both donated copies of their most recent books to the raffle along with gifts from Sustainable NYC, Urban Rustic, the IFC Center, IZZE, Lagunitas Brewery, Vegetarian Times, Brooklyn Farmacy, the Heritage Playing Card Company and Brooklyn Brewery.

In addition to the excellent bands (Fake Hooker/White Limo) and DJs (UltraV/Omega from Otto’s Shrunken Head and DannyC/MattyB), we have a zombie pinata, tacos, cocktails and a tonne of Brooklyn Beers at $3 each.

It’s going to be a big, fun and probably quite messy party in the heart of Long Island City – subway stations are plentiful at Queens Plaza E/M/R, Queensboro Plaza (Q/N/7) and Queensbridge (F) – We hope to see you there!

Maker Faire – Thank You!

Our stall at Maker Faire last weekend was a great success and we’d like to thank every one of you that came to chat to us, offer advice and generally be supportive of our project. All the comments and ideas that people raised will be of huge value to the start up of our project and it was a great boost to see how interested some of you were in the idea.

We will soon be collating all the details people left for us and compiling our mailing list to update you all on our progress towards Texas!

Habitable Spaces at Maker Faire
