William Z. Saunders

William Z. Saunders was born in Weatherford, TX in 1978. He grew up in Arkansas and relocated to San Antonio in the mid 1990’s. He is a poet and a drummer making a living as a therapist. He’s written several little books, a series of short memoir called Bad Jobs, and has read, bled,  and performed his work in various art galleries, backyards, basements, and museums in Austin, Los Angeles, New York, Glasgow, London, and Wakefield.

“It’s an honor to be Habitable Spaces first Writer in residence. I have been visiting since the program began, witnessing its evolution over time. I love driving out every once in a while and disappearing into Habitable Spaces. This environment allows me to access the memories of my senses by connecting with the Earth and open sky. These structures are like an imaginary landscape with rooms I’ve only visited in dreams. I will live on the Farm intermittently for the next 365 days, approx. 2 weeks of each season. My hope is to transmit some of what is cultivated in this isolate utopia into a new, substantial piece of work. ”
